Understanding BPM (Tempo)
BPM (Beats Per Minute) defines the tempo and pacing of a song. Knowing the exact BPM is essential for DJing, mixing, beat-matching, remixing, and playlist curation:
- 60–90 BPM: Hip-hop, R&B, Downtempo, Lo-Fi, Ballads
- 95–115 BPM: Pop, Disco, Reggaeton, Funk
- 120–130 BPM: House, Techno, Electro, Dance-Pop
- 140–160 BPM: Dubstep, Trap, Hardstyle, Rock
- 170–180 BPM: Drum & Bass, Jungle
Harmonic Mixing & Camelot Wheel
The Camelot System simplifies musical keys into an intuitive numeric wheel (1A to 12B). To mix two songs harmonically without dissonance, pick tracks with:
- The same key code: e.g., 8B into 8B (perfect harmonic match)
- Adjacent numbers on the wheel: e.g., 8B into 7B or 9B (smooth key modulation)
- Relative major/minor: e.g., 8B into 8A (changes mood between Major and Minor)
