How we review

A WBS Review is WorldBestSong's own opinion of a recording, published next to the listener rating so you get a considered second view before you press play. Some songs get a shorter first lookinstead, with no rating. This page explains who writes them, how, and why.

Who

WorldBestSong, run by [Your full legal name], is the author of every WBS Review and takes editorial responsibility for it. There is no invented critic and no human byline: the reviews are written with AI assistance, which every review page says under its title.

How

For each song we give an AI language model, running on our own computer, only catalogue facts from Apple Music (iTunes) and Deezer catalogue data: title, artist, album, release date, genre label, duration, whether the track is marked explicit, where it is available and, once a song has a few listener ratings, the listener average. The model receives nothing about you or any listener, no lyrics, and nothing from Spotify or YouTube.

The model must first say how well it knows the recording, and that answer decides what gets published. When it knows a song well we publish a full WBS Review with a rating: sound and production, songwriting and themes, performance, the best moment and who the song is for. When it does not, we publish a first look instead: a shorter piece, in the present tense, about what these artists are known for, the scene and era the record belongs to and who tends to enjoy it. A first look makes no claim about how this particular recording sounds, predicts nothing, and carries no rating — every page labels it as one. Reviews never quote lyrics and never comment on anyone's private life.

Each piece then passes automated checks for length, quoted lyrics, private-life topics, star ratings written into the text, predictions in a first look, clichés, links and markup; one that fails is rewritten once and otherwise dropped. Those checks catch form, not truth: a review can still contain a wrong detail, which is why we ask you to report errors. We spot-check what is published and can correct, regenerate or withdraw any of it, and each page shows when it was published and last updated. Songs that exist only in Spotify's catalogue are never reviewed.

The rating

WBS ratings use half stars on a 1-to-5 scale, like the listener ratings (listeners can give anything from half a star to 5). We publish a full review only when we rate a song 3 stars or higher: 3 means solid, 4 means great, 5 means essential and rare. A first look has no rating at all, because nobody assessed the recording closely enough to give one. A song without a WBS Review hasn't been rated low; it simply hasn't been reviewed yet, or the review didn't pass our checks. The WBS rating is shown separately from the listener rating and is never mixed into the listener average or the charts.

Why

Community ratings tell you what listeners think; a WBS Review tries to say why a song sounds the way it does and who it is for, consistently across genres and eras. We accept no payment, free products or other consideration from artists, labels or services, and review pages carry no ads or affiliate links.

Corrections and complaints

An AI-assisted review can be wrong. If a WBS Review or first look states something false, quotes lyrics, or is unfair to anyone, email our Grievance Officer at grievance@worldbestsong.com (every review page has a "Report a problem" link that pre-fills the details). We acknowledge within 24 hours and correct or withdraw reviews that are wrong. Our Terms of Use say more about WBS Reviews.
